What’s in a name?
Halcyon means serene and tranquil.
Its noun form is “a mythical bird said by ancient writers to breed in a nest floating at sea at the winter solstice, charming the wind and waves into calm.”
Halcyon is also the name of a tropical Asian and African kingfisher with brightly coloured plumage. My late Mum’s favourite bird was the kingfisher. I think the name’s perfect – a small tribute to my mother Sally, born in January, the month of Halcyon days.
